Ferrari F150th – test in Jerez (10th-13th February), focusing on car’s cooling efficiency

Pre season test days  are considered relatively few for a formula 1 team to cope with the tasks had to be done  . First the team must understand the newly launched  car and secondly to improve its performance and reliability , especially when testing during season is permitted . One of the key factors to achieve reliability is to check car’s cooling efficiency by testing  various cooling options . Some of the race events took place in hot weather conditions like Bahrain , or hot and moisty like Malaysia , not to forget the races taking place during summer time .

2.opening at the sidepod end  in front of the top rear suspension’s wishbone

Speaking for Ferrari , the team launched the new  car and tested it at the very first test at Valencia featuring a slot at the back of the engine cover (1) and a slot at each sidepod right and left end (2)  just in front of the top rear suspension’s wishbone . Those slots allow hot air coming from the engine and gearbox radiators to exit . At the second test in Jerez , the team added gills at both cockpit sides and rectangular slots at the front top sidepod surface to improve KERS  cooling. Of course any extra hot air outlet increases drag and we have to see if those additional outlets are here to stay permanently or will be used only at hot races  .
