Force India VJM04 – Blade roll structure

Force India reverted from an arched airbox structure to a blade roll one for the VJM04 , copying last season’s Mercedes W01 project . Despite the fact that regulations  about blade roll measurements ( 15.2.4. article )  have changed since 2011 , Force India constructed a thicker blade roll compared to the very thin and long W01’s one (to ensure driver’s head protection and obey the new rules ) because the blade roll structure still offers a better airflow towards the rear wing and also a shorter and lighter airbox .

Team Lotus is another team to adopt the blade roll structure .

“15.2.4 The principal roll structure must have a minimum enclosed structural cross section of 10000mm², in vertical projection, across a horizontal plane 50mm below its highest point. The area thus established must not exceed 200mm in length or width and may not be less than 10000 mm2 below this point.”
