       The Catalunya circuit is a well known track to teams and drivers as it is one of the major winter destinations for testing . The braking stability especially in the slow speed corners is vital for a good lap and  most teams prefer to race 25mm brake discs and 25 mm brake pads .

         Sinopec circuit features long straights ending with violent sharp brakings ,  fast turns that require  perfect car balance and many slow and medium speed corners . The most violent braking point is at kurve 8 where cars brake from 313 km/h and seventh gear to only 73  and first gear loosing 2.121 KW of kinetic energy .

Melbourne circuit braking analysis


Melbourne circuit main characteristics :

Downforce Level: High 8/10

Time spent under brake : 13 %

       Melbourne track is hard on brakes , the surface is quite bumpy particularly in the braking zones  and very slippery at the start of the race weekend as it is used as public roads . Nevertheless grip  gradually increases during weekend  as the track is rubberized.

    The circuit is full of demanding braking zones where disc brakes suffer hard pressures and high ware . The 2010 cars seems though to suffer less braking pressure compared to last season cars as they are able to travel corners with higher speed due to their better aero performance .

          A remarkable conclusion extracting from direct comparison between the 2010-2009 final speed differences is that the 2010 cars are able to enter almost all corners at Sepang  having a bit higher speed compared to last season .  This is the result of the higher amount of downforce  the 2010 car’s body can generate with even less drag penalty as the top speed just before braking is also higher for 2010 cars ( especially at kurve 1 and 8 )  . It is though good to remember that a full year in formula 1 development is really a vast time period and much progress can be achieved on aero performance  .

Bahrain GP – New Sakhir circuit lay-out braking analysis


        2009  circuit lay-out

       Sakhir circuit lay-out has changed significantly since last year  with  a new narrow section to be added after kurve 4 . That additional low speed narrow section forced the teams to increase cars downforce level a little to gain extra grip there .

       Judging from the chart above we observe that cars top speed , braking time  and maximum pedal load  all  to be decreased a bit because of the minor increase in downforce level making the new track less severe on brakes .
