Team Lotus T128 – New front wing at Melbourne

December 28, 2011 1 comment

Team Lotus launched a major upgrade package before Melbourne including a new front wing  of higher downforce . The major differences are spotted on the cascade winglet – endplate combo with the first to be no more an extension of the later but instead  separated and attached on the endplate . Moreover it is now divided into two sections ,but still remaining  double profiled like before. Lastly the inner section  of the third flap is raised higher than the rest profile offering further downforce increase .

details : adjustments of flap angle attack (marked with arrows )

Another interesting thing is that the whole wing is moved a bit forward from the pillars to receive  cleaner flow of air .

New front wing for Team Lotus T128 at Canada

A new double profiled front wing was fitted to both T128 at Canada . The inner end of the new upper flap is rising upwards in a extreme manner forming a wall .The new design  restricts airflow passing over the flap to mix with the flow passing under the nose cone hence improving the quality of air towards the diffuser and sidepods . The endplates and upper decks were kept unchanged .
