   The MP4/29 carried on the nose a visually anesthetically protuberance ,which contained a data collector of significant importance. That collector is connected to numerous sensors via cables, also visible on the nose surface . Such devices transform the real car performance  into useful numeric track data that can be contrasted with theoretically exported data . A strong correlation between the two data sources clears the path for the next upgrade step .

   The team also applied  additional data collectors housed inside aerodynamically shaped carapaces on  both  endplates of the rear wing .

  It was surprising to see Mc Laren adopting a relative short, missing the complexity of former seasons, vertical sidepod panel on the MP4/29  . The answer however to this was given shortly on the first test at Jerez with the team to add a chimney just above the panel for enhancing cooling. That chimney simply does not leave enough free space for the panel itself to develop vertically. Chimneys lastly introduced as cooling solution on cars back in 2001 again on a Mc Laren car and onwards for a few years more. Its shape and use gradually evolved and expanded, in some cases combined with a side winglet (Williams), in others used sealed solely as flow conditioner (Ferrari) or even housed the periscope exhaust tailpipes  (Ferrari and Jordan ) .

   Another new feature on the MP4/29, not present on Launch, was the addition of double vertical flow conditioners on sidepods .

The new one has a flat main profile

   Mc Laren discarded the wavy front wing in second Barcelona test, adopting a simpler new one in an attempt to decrease front end pitch sensitivity and help mechanics to understand and overcome the by birth stubbornness of MP4/28 to set up ideally .
