Mercedes W01 – Bahraini engine cover details

 

The W01 engine cover is mainly consisted of 4 different parts , the upper one with the pointed extension ( I prefer to call this extension humpback fin marked with No1 )   , the double side parts ( No 2 ) , the exhaust covers at both sides  ( No3  , to permit mechanics access the exhaust zone easily) and the black colored gearbox covers ( No 4 ) . At cockpit sides there are two removable covers that can be easily replaced with vented ones to aid cooling in hot conditions  . To construct a complete W01 engine cover mechanics have to combine 8 parts in total .

 

 

 

Toro Rosso STR5 – Exhausts development during season

STR5 throughout 2010 season raced three different exhaust outlets configurations .which are the following

Periscope , blowing between the suspension wishbones

( launch , Australia , China)

Periscope surrounded by bodywork , to improve car’s cooling

( Bahrain , Malaysia , Spain to  Belgium   )

Close to floor ( Exhaust Blown Diffuser ) to blow and energize diffuser boosting downforce production

( Italy to Abu Dhabi )
